… And we went down to try out the summer dishes, and let us tell ya, we’d happily stay here all season long. Find us on The Pavement.
Minnow is good at any time of the year, but we really do love it in the summer. Sitting out and eating al fresco in one of the most picturesque parts of Clapham with a glass of something refreshing whilst watching the world go by is unbeatable when the weather is good. You’ll quickly spot a lot of influences from the Middle East (houmous/ harissa) and the Mediterranean (garlic, chilli, lemon) – it’s healthy, fresh, and colourful. As we said, you can’t get much better than that.
The starters we went for were about as summery as you can get. We started with the sourdough & whipped brown butter. The sourdough was perfectly toasted, with the whipped brown butter providing a rich, nutty flavour that complemented the bread beautifully. Next up was the gazpacho & chargrilled sourdough. The gazpacho was cool and refreshing, with a tangy kick that was perfect for a hot day, while the chargrilled sourdough added a lovely smoky note.
The vegetable tempura with cannellini bean houmous & chilli oil was lovely and light. The tempura was shatteringly crisp and had nicely juicy vegetables inside, perfect with the creamy houmous and a drizzle of spicy chilli oil. The zucchini fritti was another standout – crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and absolutely moreish.
Minnow spoilt us for choice with the mains. There’s an impressive selection of fish, meat, and veggie options. Just like the starters, they all resembled little pieces of art on a plate. We tried the moules marinière with chargrilled sourdough. The mussels were plump and juicy, cooked in a fragrant broth of white wine, garlic, and herbs, perfect for soaking up with the chargrilled sourdough.
The risotto with king prawns, mussels & squid was a masterpiece and our favourite. The rice was perfectly al dente, with a rich, creamy sauce that was packed with seafood flavour. The prawns, mussels, and squid were cooked to perfection, adding a wonderful texture and taste to the dish.
Of course, we couldn’t leave without a peek at the dessert menu. The Eton mess was a pillowy dream – crunchy meringue, fluffy cream, and tart berries to cut through all that dairy and sugar… it’s an ode to summer.
A mouthful of food from the menu at Minnow, overlooking the Common with the sun shining down on you? That’s what it’s all about. Summer has arrived.
