The Clapham Picturehouse artist in residence is doing a drawing a day, for a really good cause

Clapham Picturehouse is turning into a gallery for June! For the whole month, part-time member of staff and artist in residence, Abby Cocovini, is drawing a picture a day. The drawings are from in and around the cinema, with a few portraits of other members of staff from the Picturehouse and locals too. Each day there is a new drawing posted up on the display board which you can see in the cinema bar.

But there is a reason behind Abby taking on a mammoth task of drawing 30 unique pictures everyday throughout June. It’s all in aid of Refuge, a charity which helps women and children experiencing abuse, which Picturehouse is currently raising money for. Here’s what they say on their ongoing JustGiving page: “Domestic abuse is the biggest issue affecting women in our society today. It affects one in four women at some point in their life and 800,000 children every year. We have set ourselves a collective target of raising £50,000 by the end of the year which will is the equivalent of 962 nights in emergency refuge accommodation“.

If you’d like to help Picturehouse with their goal then there are a few ways to get involved. On the 12th July there will be an exhibition of the entire collection of work which will be available to buy in return for a donation to the charity.
