This summer, Photofusion in Brixton invites you to a celebration of artistic transformation with their latest exhibition, “The Nature of Change.”
Running from 7th August to 18th September 2024, this showcase highlights the creative achievements of participants from the Lambeth Adult Learning STEP-UP programme.
In collaboration with 198 Contemporary Arts & Learning, the exhibition is split across both venues. At Photofusion, visitors will encounter a diverse array of photographic works from the programme’s Beginner, Advanced, and LGBTQ+ photography courses. The exhibition promises a vibrant display of the talents nurtured within the local community. Artists such as Acacia Diana, Dee Ramadan, and Devanshi Asher are among the many showcasing their work.
Since its inception in 2019, the Lambeth Adult Learning programme has empowered over 300 learners to explore various artistic disciplines. These ten-week courses, held three times a year at each location, combine practical workshops with mentorship from industry professionals. This initiative not only equips participants with new skills but also fosters a sense of community and prepares them for potential careers in the arts. The programme’s commitment to artistic growth has only intensified in the post-pandemic era, making this showcase a particularly poignant celebration of resilience and achievement.
Curated by Destinie Paige, “The Nature of Change” at Photofusion offers a glimpse into the profound impact of creativity. The exhibition features the work of photographers who have journeyed through the Lambeth Adult Learning programme, each piece reflecting personal growth and artistic exploration. From the raw expressions of beginners to the sophisticated compositions of advanced photographers, the exhibition is a testament to the diverse creative voices emerging from Lambeth.
198 Contemporary Arts & Learning will display works from the Art and Design, SEND Art and Design, and Film and Video courses from 8th August to 19th September 2024. This complementary exhibition further underscores the breadth of talent fostered by the Lambeth Adult Learning programme.
Photofusion extends gratitude to the dedicated course tutors—Francesca Hummler, Jasmine Bell, Max Ferguson, Paul Ellis, Shannon Osborne, Steff Jamieson, and Tereza Červeňová—whose guidance has been instrumental in the success of the programme.
Supported by the Greater London Authority (GLA) and quality-assured by Lambeth Council’s Adult Learning Service, Photofusion remains committed to offering educational opportunities that enhance the wellbeing of Lambeth residents. The organisation looks forward to expanding its programmes in 2024 and beyond, continuing to inspire and nurture local talent.
For those seeking a profound artistic experience this summer, “The Nature of Change” at Photofusion is not to be missed. Join the celebration and witness the power of creativity to transform lives and communities.
