This November, several services across the borough will provide the community with a chance to come together and pay respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The main service will take place on Monday, 11th November, at the war memorial in Battersea Park. Starting at 10:45am, with the official Service of Remembrance beginning at 11am, the ceremony will be attended by the Mayor of Wandsworth, Sana Jafri, the Leader of the Council, Simon Hogg, representatives from service organisations, and local dignitaries. The memorial in Battersea Park is a fitting location, dedicated to the 24th (London) Division of the First World War. Created by the artist and former soldier Eric Kennington, the Portland stone monument is a lasting tribute to courage and sacrifice.

In addition to the main ceremony, Remembrance Sunday will see services held in Battersea, Putney, and Tooting, giving everyone in the borough an opportunity to observe this solemn occasion.

  • Battersea: Councillor Jafri will be present at St Mary’s Church on Battersea Church Road for the annual Service of Remembrance.
  • Putney: Deputy Mayor Finna Ayres will attend the service at St Mary’s Church on Putney High Street.
  • Tooting: Wandsworth Youth Mayor, Millie Quinn, will join the service at St Nicholas Church on Church Lane, beginning at 10:45am.

Each service will start with a wreath-laying ceremony at local war memorials, followed by a two-minute silence at 11am. This moment of reflection is a time-honoured tradition, offering a collective pause to remember and respect those who gave their lives in defence of our freedom.

As we gather at these services, we stand not only to honour those who have fallen but to recognise the sacrifices made by servicemen and women across generations. These gatherings across Wandsworth allow us to come together as a community, ensuring that the memory of the fallen lives on and that their bravery is never forgotten.
