Battersea’s Queen’s Arms is making a comeback—this time as a Czech-style taproom

After years of sitting empty, The Queen’s Arms on St Philip Street is about to get a well-deserved revival.

The historic 180-year-old pub has been abandoned since the Covid lockdown, but now it’s set to return with a fresh new look—this time as an authentic Czech-style taproom, courtesy of Bohem Brewery.

Czech beers, pub games, and good vibes

This is the fourth venue from independent brewers Bohem Brewery, founded by Petr Skocek and Zdenek Kudr. They’ve already made a name for themselves with Bohem Tap Room in Bowes Park, The Nicholas Nickleby in Finsbury Park, and a brewery in Tottenham, and now they’re bringing their signature dark lagers and malty pilsners to Battersea.

If their other venues are anything to go by, you can expect more than just great beer. The revamped Queen’s Arms will be buzzing with live music, classic pub games, and proper Czech pouring techniques—including sideways-pouring taps and a chladici vana (a cooler bath that keeps glasses cold and wet). In other words, it’s going to be a beer lover’s dream.

A long-overdue return

The Queen’s Arms has had a rocky few years. After shutting down in 2017, it briefly reopened in 2020, only to close again during the pandemic. There was even talk of turning it into a community-funded social enterprise, but those plans fizzled out. Now, with Bohem Brewery at the helm, the pub is finally getting the fresh start it deserves.

Bohem Brewery on their new venture

In a statement, the team at Bohem Brewery shared their excitement about the Battersea opening: “After opening The Nicholas Nickleby just eight months ago, we found immense success and resounding support for not only our fabulous beer but also our brewery and what we stand to do for the beer world. Because of this, we’re delighted to announce that Bohem Brewery has signed a lease on our third taproom: The Queen’s Arms in Battersea.

It’ll take us a few (short) months to be up and running, but we look forward to raising a glass of authentic Czech-style beer with friends old and new.”

A fresh take on a Battersea classic

With top-notch Czech beers, a lively atmosphere, and a fresh start for one of Battersea’s oldest boozers, The Queen’s Arms is shaping up to be a must-visit. Keep an eye out for the official opening date and get ready to cheers Bohemian style—this one’s going to be special.
