Got an occasion? Head to Balham’s Wine Tasting Shop

From a simple glass of wine after work to private parties in the cellar, The Wine Tasting Shop can cater for all your needs.

Few things can top a really good glass of wine. Red, white, orange, fizzy… the options are endless. If you’ve not quite settled on what floats your boat or you want to try out something a little different, then The Wine Tasting Shop might just be your answer.

A lovely little shop and bar nestled in the middle of Hildreth Street, the inside and outside seating means you can enjoy a visit to The Wine Tasting shop all year around. Though the site has been there for 12 years, it has recently acquired new owners in the past 6 months. The new tenants are huge wine lovers and it is clear in store; with over 200 different bottles of wine covering a wide diversity of grape there is clearly a lot of love in the space. Each description of the wines are written by hand too- it shows the huge amount of knowledge as well as being a sweet personal touch.

We headed down to check it out, and of course had to get a couple of glasses of the good stuff. We went classic with a deliciously indulgent glass of champagne and a crisp Sauvignon blanc. To go with our drinks we tried out two platters; one with artisan cheeses and sun-dried tomatoes, and a charcuterie board served with sourdough bread. The burrata spread on top the fresh bread with a slice of fennel salami was really amazing.

The staff were incredibly welcoming. They were happy to talk us through the wines they had on offer and to help suggest something depending on our preferences without being intimidating… like many spots can be.

They cater for a huge variety of occasions; tasting events, private parties, catch up with friends, or simply to pop in and buy a bottle. Want something more specific? They’ll come to you off site if you need the wine bringing to you.
