As part of a collaboration with the London Festival of Architecture, the council has launched a design competition aimed at transforming this dark, uninviting stretch into a brighter, safer, and more welcoming space.

There are seven shortlisted designs up for consideration, each bringing a unique and artistic touch to the 100m-long route. The ideas range from vibrant lighting installations to large-scale murals – all crafted to celebrate Clapham Junction’s character and make the space something special. Councillor Simon Hogg is thrilled about the project, saying, “Improvements to this bridge are long overdue… Take a look at the shortlisted designs and tell us which ones you prefer to brighten up your neighbourhood.”

Where to See the Designs

Keen to check them out? The shortlisted designs are on display from 13th to 24th November at these spots:

  • Battersea Library, Lavender Hill
  • Falcon Glade, the outdoor space near Falcon Terrace and Falcon Road bridge
  • Outside Clapham Junction station, Grant Road entrance

Or, if you’re more of an online person, you can view and vote for your favourite design on the London Festival of Architecture website lfa.london/TransformFalconRoad.

Why Your Vote Matters

This isn’t just about adding some colour – it’s a chance to reimagine a key part of Clapham Junction and bring a sense of pride to the area. The winning design will be installed in late 2025 as part of Wandsworth’s time as London Borough of Culture. The council wants your thoughts to help shape this decision, so this is your chance to get involved and make a real impact on the neighbourhood.

What’s Next?

Once voting is complete, a panel of judges will take your feedback into account and choose the final design, which will be announced in December 2024. The winning team will then work closely with the community to finalise the plans, with the installation set to transform the bridge next year.

Don’t miss out on this chance to have a say in your local area’s future – check out the designs, cast your vote, and let’s make Falcon Road Bridge a space that Clapham Junction can be proud of!
