Here is what’s in store for the Common in 2024

Clapham Common Management Advisory Committee (CCMAC) have given us a little glimpse of what’s in store for Clapham Common in ’24.

Current state of the new cafe placed near Battersea Woods.

You’re not the only one going for a ‘New Year, New Me’ approach to the next 12 months. Our very own Clapham Common is having a glow up too. *CCMAC are a wonderful group of people who care about the running of the Common and work to make it a wonderful space for us all to enjoy. They’ve released some of their plans that will see our green space getting some serious upgrades. Here’s what you can expect…

  • New wetland. February. This project is being orchestrated by Wild Clapham, a working group of CCMAC
  • Landscaped Windmill Drive. March
  • New benches. The new benches will be delivered in blocks of five over the year. 60+ benches in total will be installed.
  • New cafes. The pavilion and kiosk beside the bowling green are both being renovated to make them suitable for service! The pavilion will be spruced up to make it market appropriate, so it will be for rent later in the year. There will also be a new cafe placed near Battersea Woods.
  • New bins
  • New paths
  • Local nature reserve. The LNR has already been created but there will be a biodiversity audit of the Common and a plan developed to improve the biodiversity. The ‘Biodiversity Action Plan’ will see the LNR being granted special status and will be exclusively used for flora and fauna.
A proposed plan for the new wetland.

And that’s not everything yet… The annual meeting takes place in February and no doubt even more plans will be released then. We will, of course, update you when we hear more in February, but until then here are some things to get excited about!
