Holland & Barrett has announced plans to open a new store on 161 Clapham High Street, taking over part of the space previously occupied by the post office.
While the official opening date hasn’t yet been confirmed, this national chain will soon be joining the growing number of businesses in this part of SW London.
The former post office site has been divided into two units, with Holland & Barrett snapping up one half. That leaves 2,300 sq. ft. of space still on the market—so watch this space for even more announcements!
While Holland & Barrett’s arrival will undoubtedly add to the area’s mix of health and wellness options, it’s important to spotlight the independent businesses that have been the backbone of Clapham High Street for years.
One such business is Today’s Living, a family-run shop that has been serving the community for over 30 years. Offering a curated selection of health and wellness products, Today’s Living is known for its personalised service and deep ties to the local area. It’s this kind of independent business that gives Clapham its unique character and keeps the high street vibrant.
Clapham High Street has seen an influx of larger chains in recent years, including Popeyes and Wingstop. While these bring convenience and broader name recognition, they also add pressure to long-standing independents like Today’s Living.
As Holland & Barrett prepares to open, it’s a reminder to shop local where you can. Independent businesses not only offer unique products but also contribute to the community’s identity in ways that big brands simply can’t.
High streets are changing across London, and Clapham is no exception. While larger chains can attract more visitors, the long-term success of the high street depends on a balance between national names and local gems.
So, as you explore the new arrivals, don’t forget the businesses like Today’s Living that have been here through it all—providing personalised advice, community connection, and decades of service to Clapham.
After all, the heart of Clapham High Street has always been its independents.
