Battersea Power Station has had its fair share of headline moments, but a visit from His Majesty King Charles III?
Now, that’s something special. On 12th December 2024, the King graced the riverside neighbourhood to soak up its festive magic, meet local talent, and celebrate Battersea’s incredible transformation.
Kicking off his visit, the King was serenaded by the Battersea Power Station Community Choir. Inside the stunning Turbine Hall A, he wandered through the Curated Makers Christmas Market, a treasure trove of handmade goodies from over 40 independent businesses. Megan Jones, the market’s founder and alumna of The King’s Trust Enterprise programme, showed His Majesty around, showcasing the power of entrepreneurial spirit nurtured right here in Battersea.
In true royal fashion, the King unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark his visit. It’s a fitting addition to the Grade II* listed Power Station, which has evolved from industrial landmark to cultural hotspot. The building’s stunning restoration bridges Battersea’s rich history with its bright, buzzing future.
His Majesty spent time with schoolchildren, youth groups, and apprentices from the Battersea Academy for Skills and Employment (BASE). He even popped into Apple’s UK Headquarters in the Boiler House, chatting with CEO Tim Cook and learning about the tech giant’s community projects.
The day wrapped up with a heartwarming display of children’s Christmas drawings projected onto the Power Station. Add to that a live performance by award-winning singer RAYE in Power Station Park, and it’s safe to say Battersea’s festive offerings are in full swing. From London’s only riverside ice rink to a towering 40ft Christmas tree, this neighbourhood knows how to do Christmas right.
With over 150 shops, bars, and restaurants, plus a packed calendar of events, Battersea Power Station is more than a landmark—it’s a destination. Whether you’re there to shop for unique gifts, enjoy seasonal treats, or just bask in the festive vibes, this riverside gem has something for everyone.
