Papa’s Park and Café Needs You: Let’s Get This Brixton Gem Back on Its Feet

Brixton, we’ve got a situation on our hands. Papa’s Park, our little green haven in the middle of Lambeth, was recently hit by a break-in.

It’s the kind of news that makes your heart sink, but here’s the thing—this is Brixton, and we don’t let things like this keep us down for long.

If you’ve ever strolled through Papa’s Park, you’ll know it’s more than just a park. It’s a home away from home, where kids can play, friends can catch up, and everyone’s welcome with open arms. And at the centre of it all is Papa’s Café, run by Valcie and Hurley, two absolute legends who’ve turned the space into a warm, welcoming spot for everyone.

But after the break-in, things are looking a bit bleak. The community building was damaged, stock was stolen from the café, and items were taken from the groups that use the hall. It’s a massive blow, but we’re not about to sit back and let it slide.

We’ve set up a crowdfunder with a goal of £2,000 to help get things back on track. We need to fix the building, replace the stolen items, and most importantly, make sure that Papa’s Park remains the vibrant heart of our community.

Here’s the deal: we need you. Whether you can chip in a fiver or more, every little bit helps. And if you’re not in a position to donate, that’s okay—sharing this campaign with your mates, family, and neighbours is just as valuable.

As Cllr James Bryan said, “Papa’s Park is the sort of place that makes me proud to call Brixton my home. For over 20 years it has been at the heart of the community. The park is entirely run by volunteers, and they’re counting on all of us to do our bit to keep this wonderful place safe, open and free for everyone.”

So, Brixton, let’s show what we’re made of. Let’s rally together, put things right, and keep Papa’s Park and Café thriving. Because when one of us takes a hit, we all step up. That’s what makes this community so special.
