This summer, The Rose and Crown in Clapham Old Town kicks off its exciting culinary series, beginning with a bang on Thursday, 13th June 2024.
Featuring culinary talents George Husband of Brat Restaurant and George Brown from Café Cecilia, this series is set to be the talk of the town.
Named THE ROSE & CROWN x GORKA, the series starts with a Rose Spagliato cocktail—a zesty mix of red vermouth, Campari, bitters, and Sandford rose cider. It’s the perfect opener for an evening of exceptional dining. Guests have their pick of first courses: cured trout with scallion rosti, shiso, crème fraîche, pickled onion, and fermented rhubarb jelly, or a veggie version with nori-cured tomato. Both dishes pair beautifully with a crisp 2022 Albariño from Santiago Ruiz in Galicia, Spain.
The main event offers a choice between crispy jowl paired with smoked cod’s roe, a robust dry-aged sirloin of beef with smoked chilli beef sauce, or for vegetarians, grilled kohlrabi with Douglas fir and smoked ‘steak’ butter. These are complemented by a bold 2021 Chianti Rufina from Selvapiana, Tuscany. For dessert, guests can indulge in cherry blossom ice cream served with fermented asparagus consommé, accompanied by a glass of Nyetimber Classic Cuvee from West Sussex.
Priced at £85 per person, the evening includes three expertly paired courses and a welcome cocktail. Booking is essential to secure a spot at this not-to-be-missed culinary event.
Behind GORKA are two Georges, whose shared passion for local flavours and innovative cooking has made their project a standout. Drawing inspiration from the Basque region, they mix a deep respect for ingredients with a modern take on traditional techniques. This commitment shines through in their festival work, where the local landscape deeply influences the menu offerings. The ethos of blending local produce with seasonal creativity is what guests can expect at The Rose and Crown, promising an evening that’s as delightful as it is memorable.
