Battersea Power Station has done it again! This summer, they’ve unveiled a brand-new artwork called ‘Together We Rise’, created by the talented team at London design practice POoR Collective.
On display until 13th October 2024, this installation has brought a splash of colour and creativity to the iconic Grade II* listed landmark.
‘Together We Rise’ is a stunning display of over 100 flags, suspended inside the historic turbine halls of the power station. POoR Collective was inspired by the breathtaking sunrises and sunsets over Battersea, and they’ve recreated that magic with this piece. As you wander through, you’ll notice how the flags take you on a visual journey – think bold, vibrant colours reflecting the sun’s daily rhythm.
In Turbine Hall A, you’ll find the ‘Sunrise Flags’ featuring warm shades of blue, pink, and orange. Move into the 1950s Turbine Hall B, and you’ll be greeted with the ‘Sunset Flags’, showing off deep pinks, oranges, and yellows. Look out for the rotating circular motifs on each flag – a nod to the sun’s journey as it rises and sets over this iconic London spot.
If you love ‘Together We Rise’, there’s more to look forward to. Battersea Power Station will soon host another bespoke public artwork from POoR Collective called ‘Together In Battersea’. This community-inspired installation will be unveiled in Turbine Hall A on 20th September 2024 and will be on display until 20th October 2024. It’s all part of this year’s London Design Festival, so you know it’s going to be something special.
POoR Collective is all about elevating young voices through design, and they’ve really outdone themselves here. One of their founders, Shawn Adams, shared that the project has been a dream, especially since some of their team grew up in South West London and have a deep connection to the Power Station. “The artwork now on display serves as a vibrant prequel to ‘Together In Battersea’, promising to bring even more colour to this iconic London landmark,” says Shawn.
This installation isn’t just eye candy – it’s about making art and culture more accessible to the local community. And if you’ve seen Battersea Power Station’s recent art displays, you know they’re serious about adding a cultural flair to this buzzing riverside neighbourhood.
‘Together We Rise’ is part of Battersea Power Station’s vibrant summer line-up, so if you’re planning a visit, now’s the time! It’s free to view and adds an extra element to the experience of exploring the Power Station’s shops, cafes, and riverside paths. Don’t miss this chance to see a truly unique piece of art up close!
