If you are looking to continue veganuary into 2024 or you just prefer plants, then you’ll be happy to hear all about this brand new restaurant coming to Brixton Village in February. Veg & Tings is opening in Brixton Village opposite its older (meatier) sibling, Fish, Wings & Tings.

Fish, Wings & Tings opened in Brixton Village in 2012. It was restauranteur, Brian Danclaire’s, answer to the gap he saw in Caribbean representation in the hospitality world. And it’s done really, really well. Famous faces from all corners of the world travel to this corner of Brixton to eat Danclaire’s food; Munya Chawawa, Raye, Naomi Cowan… And it’s no wonder the stars come in their flocks! Anyone who has eaten there knows that the cod fish fritters are unrivalled, the curry mutton is to die for and the rum punch really does pack a punch.

Riding on the success of Fish, Wings & Tings, Danclair’s Kitchen opened in August 2021. This is more of a refined restaurant; sharing plates that take their influence from the Caribbean, Europe and the Americas. Unsurprisingly, the global flavours have gone down a storm. In the year it opened Evening Standard restaurant critic Jimi Famurewa named it in his top 10 of London restaurants.

All of this to say that Brian Danclaire really knows what he’s doing when it comes to running a restaurant. So, we’ve got no doubt that his latest concept is going to do just as well. As the name suggests, Veg & Tings is Fish, Wings & Tings’ vegetarian little sister. Sitting opposite each other, this new restaurant will incorporate all the Caribbean flavours that we’ve come to love from Danclaire’s cooking, but it’ll all be based around plants. That means that you can expect to see a lot of plantain, plant-based jerk, stews, salads, soups… Healthy is the name of the game here, so if you’re looking for something a little lighter on the stomach but still packed with flavour, Veg & Tings might well be your place.
