Flow Box Yoga is the kind of place that will make you want to get into yoga. It’s as good for beginners as it is for pros.
Yoga can be a bit of a daunting one, especially as a beginner. You rock up to the class with questions running through your head: Will everyone else be able to touch their toes? And what actually is downward dog? Despite the whole ethos of yoga, there are many studios out there that don’t do much to help calm the anxiety of first timers. But we tried Flow Box Yoga and felt welcomed with open arms. These are supportive, friendly classes that take place in a community space right in the heart of Tooting Bec.
Local resident, Emma, launched her own yoga company in 2023. Her vision was to build a community where yoga is both accessible and affordable for everyone. She is dedicated to making yoga approachable and it really shines through in every class where there’s an inviting and inclusive environment. The studio itself is perfectly serene and uplifting; it’s bathed in the beautiful glow of natural daylight and is a wonderful place to practice. Currently Flow Box Yoga is offering 3 different yoga classes per week. We tried out each one and here’s what we thought:
Tuesday: Cosmic Candlelit
This one was incredibly relaxing. There was a lot of floor work and breathing exercises and the whole class took place in candlelight. It finished at 9pm which meant that we rolled straight from the studio into bed for one of the best nights sleep we’ve had.
Friday: Rise and Reset
This felt like a great way to kickstart the weekend first thing on a Friday. It was a beginner style class so made for a good intro to yoga and nailing the fundamentals.
Saturday: Signature Vinyasa Flow
Definitely the most advanced of the 3 classes but it was still really accessible. Though we couldn’t necessarily do all the moves, everyone in the class was at different levels so we didn’t feel out of place and could happily take it at our own pace. This one is at 11am and we swung by after Parkrun, our muscles really appreciated the stretch.
All the classes were really enjoyable and what a good way to start the New Year resolutions if you’re looking to get fit this year. Our heart rate certainly spiked and after the three classes we could already feel strength building in our arms and legs. Of course there’s the benefit to mental wellbeing that yoga brings and if there’s ever a time to look after our brains then January is it.
If you’re looking for something a bit more personalised then there are 1-2-1 slots available for private sessions and private group bookings. Emma also has plans to expand their offering, so keep an eye out for more classes coming soon. Flow Box Yoga is currently running an exclusive offer where you can get 3 classes for £27 which means you can try all of Emma’s classes at just £9 per class! The offer expires 10.02.24 and is for new members only.
Classes take place at The Bec, 81-87 Upper Tooting Road, SW17 7TW on Tues, Fri and Sat.
