Circle the dates and set those alarms, folks! This summer, London’s skyline will dazzle with a spectacular flotilla of hot air balloons.
Scheduled for a Sunday morning flight, the Lord Mayor’s Hot Air Balloon Regatta offers more than just a visual treat—it supports the Lord Mayor’s Appeal with a charity fundraiser organised by Exclusive Ballooning.
Corporate sponsors will have balloons flying in their company colours and logos. Previous regattas have treated onlookers to an eclectic mix of designs, including balloons shaped like wellington boots and lions, as well as traditional spheres in a kaleidoscope of colours.
Though billed as an annual event, the regatta has seen its fair share of disruptions, from a cancellation in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic to poor weather hindering the 2021, 2022, and 2023 events. Nevertheless, 2019 saw a successful launch with 46 balloons taking to the skies from Battersea Park in the crisp early morning.
The 2024 event looks promising, with several dates earmarked:
The weather remains the critical factor, as wind and rain will determine the viability of each launch. The organisers have set multiple dates to improve the odds of the event going ahead. We’ll keep you posted on our website and social media as these dates draw near.
For those keen to experience this magical event, you’ll need to rise early—the balloons launch from Battersea Park around 5:30 AM. Though it’s an early start, the sight of colourful balloons floating across the city at sunrise is absolutely worth it. Stay tuned, and fingers crossed that this year the weather plays ball for an unforgettable aerial display over London!
