An inclusive space that not only puts out great food, but it also does so much for the community. Yep, KataKata is well worth a visit.
Set on Brixton Hill, KataKata is a fantastic local cafe for so many reasons. The food, the drinks and the strong ethos that flows through the place will quickly make you fall in love with them. As well as serving a huge selection of savoury galettes and sweet crepes, alongside fresh juice, coffee, salads, cocktails and wine, it really is a community hub at it’s heart.
Their profits are put into some great local initiatives. It’s hard to condense all they are up to, so here’s a brief overview:
So you can see, there is a lot of good going on in this space. Which, in itself is really lovely. It’s such a warm and friendly environment and staff are incredibly welcoming. We are dreaming of summer days when we can laze about in the courtyard with a smoothie and galette.
And on those smoothies and galettes… We went down and tried a range of their offering. We started with some juices, made right in front of us they really were as fresh as you can get. We love their names- ‘Tiredness Solution’ and ‘Positive Juice’ are just a duo of the range. With names like that you can let the juices choose you depending on how you’re feeling. We then tried out some of their galettes and let us tell you, they were good enough to make France shake in its boots. We tried the KataKata special: stuffed with spinach, mushroom, aubergines and cheese this was a huge hit. Satisfying, rammed full of fillings and flavour and so many vegetables we felt (almost) virtuous. The red goat came highly recommended and the fillings of beetroot, sweet potatoes and goats cheese were the perfect combination of sweet, tangy and creamy, making it a really luxurious mouthful.
We couldn’t not finish off with some of the sweet crepes. The classically filled strawberry, banana, and Nutella was an obvious crowd pleaser done really well but it was the ‘Rumble on the Crumble’ that really stole the limelight for us; apples and spiced granola added some delicious texture to the crepe and left us full and happy.
As we said, it’s hard to condense everything that makes KataKata so worth the visit because there is just so much going on. We asked the owner to help us out and he wrapped up their main ethos: “Fresh fast food at an honest price in a great inclusive and diverse environment“. We couldn’t agree more.
But we also urge you to go down and check it out for yourself. There’s so much more to it than we can possibly put into words.
