Brixton’s Dinner at Sans wins £10,000 grant

Dinner at Sans is one of Brixton’s finest. Well we knew that! Now it has been officially recognised with this national award.

600 black-owned restaurants applied for the Black Business Fund award. The award, which was hosted by Uber and Enterprise Nation, gave the 25 winners a slice of a combined total award of £120,000. The aim of the incentive was to encourage more diversity within the hospitality industry by supporting black owned restaurants. Currently, only 5% of small and medium sized businesses are run by people from minority backgrounds and this is exactly what the award is trying to change.

Out of those 25 who won a portion of the £120,000 was one of Brixton’s finest: Dinner at Sans. The Pop Brixton-based restaurant is run by powerhouse Santeni Brown. Santeni has ‘revitalised Jamaican flavours’ with her Caribbean inspired dishes. Traditional, hearty food with a London twist is the speciality here and you can expect curry goat, drum jerk chicken with jerk mayo, fried plantain and some impressive rum punches. But Santeni doesn’t stop there. As well as the kitchen at Pop Brixton, Dinner at Sans also does catering, events and pop-ups too. Make sure to keep her Jamaican dishes in mind when you are next throwing a big bash…

Here’s what Santeni said about winning the award:

Firstly, a massive thank you to the organisers for making opportunities like these possible for small black businesses and many more to come. 2023 will be an exciting year for the business and could not imagine a better was to start the year. Thank you for your continued support!

Congratulations to the Dinner at Sans team and Santeni! We can’t wait to see what the next year holds (almost as much as we can’t wait for our next meal of jerk sea bass and rice and peas).
