El Pastor is opening just outside Battersea Power Station in spring 2024 and if- like us- you’re a Mexican food fanatic, mark your diaries.
There are 982 Mexican restaurants in England, so, nope, we are certainly not short on places to get a taco here. But a good taco? Well they can be a little harder to come by. There are stale tacos, scantly-filled tacos, flavourless tacos and bang average tacos plaguing the UK so when a really good taco comes along, we want to meet it.
And you know where does a really great taco? El Pastor. This Mexican restaurant was founded by a duo who spent a decade in Mexico City running the famous El Colmillo nightclub, and whilst they were there they learnt a thing or two about really good cooking. They make their tortillas in-house fresh every day using heritage Mexican corn and they pay close attention to the ingredients they use; it’s all sustainably sourced and mindful of environmental impact. So the foundation is good and on top of that is a really fantastic menu. It’s simple- starters are mainly tostadas with a variety of flavours, there are 7 different tacos (the signature ‘Al Pastor’ inspired the name of the restaurant), sides and a few sharing dishes- the 12 hour braised short rib comes served with unlimited warm tortillas and has to be on your winter eating schedule. The great thing about the short menu is that it isn’t hard to make a big dent in it when visiting with a group. It’s all perfect to be shared with a table of friends so go with a big group and get a nibble of it all!
So when and where? Spring 2024 is the current estimated opening date for the large 90 cover strong restaurant. It will be opposite the north entrance to the Power Station and, as well as the restaurant, will house a bar, a private dining room and a covered riverside terrace. We will see you there for tacos, tequila and a terrific time.
