June 2024 is marked on the calendar for the grand opening of Freight Brixton, poised to become “London’s largest open air rooftop venue”.
This ambitious venture will take over the rooftop space above Sports Direct on Pope’s Road—the same location that was once earmarked for the controversial Hondo Tower.
The site has a rich history, having previously served as a coal drop-off point for railway wagons and more recently, playing host to seasonal favourites like a Christmas pop-up and the Brixton Beach Boulevard. Now, it’s set for its most transformative chapter yet.
Operated by Field Vision Bars, known for their expertise in high-performance bar operations and innovative event experiences, this venture promises to be a standout. The company has a notable track record, with successful projects at Printworks London and ongoing engagements at Drumsheds and Dalston Roofpark.
Freight Brixton aims to cater to a wide audience with its licensing application seeking permission to sell alcohol from 2 PM to 11 PM from Monday to Thursday, extending hours until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and wrapping up at 11 PM on Sundays.
Anticipation is building as the venue’s website encourages future guests to sign up for priority access to bookings, enticing discounts, and exclusive previews of upcoming events. This new hotspot is set to redefine outdoor leisure, offering a fresh pinnacle of nightlife and social gatherings in the heart of Brixton.
