Lee Westcott’s Brixton pop-up brings foraged French dining to Bottle + Rye

Brixton food enthusiasts, brace yourselves! Lee Westcott, the culinary maestro whose tenure at Birch in Croydon was regrettably short-lived, is not only staying put in London but also stirring up something rather special.

Before embarking on his hunt for the perfect East London pub to call his own, Westcott is diving into a captivating six-week pop-up affair at Bottle + Rye, the brainchild of gastronomic pioneers Robin and Sarah Gill.

Promising a French-inspired menu that’s as innovative as it is enticing, Westcott plans to weave in a generous dose of foraged ingredients, elevating the dining experience to new heights. The anticipated lineup includes delights such as Carlingford Oyster adorned with elderflower and fermented wild garlic, Grilled New Forest asparagus drenched in seaweed & sauce vierge, and a rustic Pâté De Campagne perfectly complemented by Darby’s sourdough and house pickles. For those with a penchant for the refined, the Aged sirloin steak tartare, enriched with a Burford brown egg and crispy potato, awaits, while the Cornish bouillabaisse promises a coastal escapade with its fresh gurnard & mussels, served alongside grilled baguette and rouille. And to round off this culinary ballet, the Yorkshire rhubarb choux bun offers a sweet encore.

This pop-up signals the beginning of what promises to be a series of culinary adventures across South London with Westcott at the helm. So, if you’re keen on a taste journey that marries the rustic charm of French cuisine with the wild heart of British foraging, Bottle + Rye is where you’ll want to anchor down this season. It’s not just a meal; it’s an exploration of flavors that beckon from beyond the English Channel, right to your plate in Brixton. Ready your forks, London; it’s going to be a delectable ride.
