For the first time in the history of the South Kensington museum, there is going to be a whole exhibition on the life and times of a model.
The Victoria and Albert are on a bit of a fashion-kick at the moment, having just curated two exhibitions on the theme: Chanel and DIVA are their most recent, and very popular, shows. There’s no sign that they’ll be curtailing their fashion-forward ways, however, because next in the calendar is Naomi.
The show will explore the 4 decade career of the model, and will showcase more than just a selection of her famous wardrobe… The V&A will also highlight Naomi’s work in activism and the cultural impact she has had on the world beyond her modelling career.
The museum has said: “The first exhibition of its kind exploring the extraordinary career of fashion model Naomi Campbell. Through the work of leading global designers and photographers we celebrate her creative collaborations, activism and far-reaching cultural impact.” Naomi has echoed this: “I’m honoured to be asked by the V&A to share my life in clothes with the world”.
The exhibition opens on 22nd June and will run until 6th April 2025. It will sell out fast.
