The Hope & Anchor will get you smitten too

The Hope & Anchor has a lot to offer- events, great beer and an incredible burger. But that beer garden? We are smitten.

The Hope & Anchor is perched right on the Brixton/Clapham boarder, ready to serve punters from both locations some great pub food and with some great atmosphere on the side too. It’s a great spot for meeting friends mid-way for an afterwork drink, or a launchpad for a night out on the town… or just hunker down and stay put; it’s a guaranteed good time.

What we really loved about it was that perfect beer garden. It is certainly up there with one of the best in the area. It’s got lots of layers to it; the huts, the sun-trapped astro and a timber frame in the middle of the garden too. It makes for a great spot all year round, you’ve got shade if it’s too hot and shelter when it rains too.

We grabbed a couple of burgers to have with our Brixton largers and were truly blown away. The Firework burger certainly was firework worthy; an explosion of flavours and just the right amount of spice to get the tastebuds tingling. The Sweet Chicken Tower was also extremely good, the avocado and bacon combo doesn’t miss and the sauces really elevated both of these burgers to more than just ‘pub grub’. There were a huge variety of burger flavours on the menu and it was hard to choose just two… looks like we will have to return. We also need to give a shout out to the chips. Often an overlooked side, these ones were anything but. Super crisp and just the right amount of salt meant that we quickly made our way through the pile.

The Hope & Anchor will let you do your own thing, if that’s what you want, but we’d also highly recommend you checking out some of their upcoming events. Bottomless brunches, life drawing classes and open mic nights mean that it’s hard to stay away from it for too long. See you there.
