The Kricket Fried Chicken Challenge is returning to Brixton

Call it the Olympics of the food world if you want. It’s as competitive and as exciting watching these athletes of the kitchen cooking…

On 19th March the chicken aficionados of London will be descending on Kricket’s Brixton restaurant for their chance to win the coveted title of ‘Best Fried Chicken’. Last year local restaurant Black Bear Burger won the competition with a belter of a recipe: blue cheese stuffed chicken wings with hot sauce. Yum. But it wasn’t just Black Bear that won last year, because the event also raised over £1200 for the Childhood Trust.

So who’s going to be in the kitchen on the 19th? The line up is impressive: Black Bear Burger, CoqfighterSmoking GoatThunderbird Fried ChickenChicken ShopKanada-YaStudio KitchenSoho HotelDaffodil Mulligan and Tonkotsu. But the big names don’t stop there, because there are some pretty big foodie names on the judging panel. Head chef (and co-owner) of Kricket, Will Bowlby, Joanna Taylor (food and drink editor of the Evening Standard), Professor Green, KFC’s ‘Chief Chicken Officer’, blogger Zena Kamgaing and Jesse Burgess from Top Jaw will all be trying the offerings of each eatery to choose the winner. With restaurants like that and judges like those, there’s no doubt that this will be an exciting event…
