Tooting Bec Lido Dives Into a New Era with a Stellar Reopening

After a hiatus that stretched over a year, Tooting Bec Lido has reopened.

The end of winter brings this delightful news for outdoor swimming fans across the UK. This month, the lido in London welcomed swimmers back following a £3.8 million refurbishment. Initially, repairs aimed at a quick nine-month completion hit a snag due to unexpected asbestos. Despite this, the venue managed a limited winter opening for members. Now, it’s open to everyone.

Judi Gasser, Wandsworth’s Environment Cabinet Member, shared her enthusiasm. “We’re excited for the warmer days ahead and happy to reopen the lido. The extensive renovations will ensure it remains a favorite spot for many years.”

The updates promise to keep the lido in top shape for 50 more years. “We’ve made significant improvements to ensure its longevity,” Gasser added. Future plans include a new café, an updated entrance, and a sauna. Further enhancements will also feature new showers, changing rooms, toilets, a reception area, security measures, and bike parking. These plans were approved last September.

To swim at the lido, book in advance with a free membership from Places Leisure. Walk-ins are welcome too, but there’s a limit of 1,300 people. Since its opening in 1906, the lido has been a key local venue. It’s the largest freshwater pool in the country. With these upgrades, Tooting Bec Lido is all set for a bright future.
