We checked out Brixton’s Madelina… and so should you. Great for a quick coffee or a long brunch, head down for some great food.
They’ve been perched at their spot on Acre lane since 2016, when they were originally called ‘Piece of Cake’, but have since rebranded to Madelina because, by their own admission, they are a lot more than just a piece of cake. Having tried out some of their food we couldn’t agree more. We had a mammoth spread of fresh healthy food. We loved their signature bagels, the avocado toast was a pimped version on the classic, topped with sesame and pumpkin seeds and cherry tomatoes.
Of course the eggs Benedict was cooked to perfection and their presentation really blew us away. Edible flowers and micro herbs aren’t the norm for an independent cafe, but Madelina do things differently and each dish came out looking like a masterpiece.
What we especially liked about Madelina is that it wasn’t just about the food they were serving. The whole atmosphere of the place was special. The interior was coated in vibrant green plants, who clearly get a lot of attention, and the team were incredibly attentive and welcoming, we really didn’t want to leave. You can also easily tell the team’s pride in the food they are serving you.
They clearly know and love the (changing and seasonal) menus well, and these small details really help create the place what it is. Madeline are open Mon-Sun, so when you’re next passing pop in. You won’t regret it.
