Introducing: August. Get the diary out because there are loads of events to keep you going, from skate parties to spoken word events.
Warm up for Carnival

Where: Brixton Village Studios/ Various locations around Brixton
August is carnival month, and Brixton Village are putting on a whole host of events to make sure you are fully prepped for the big weekend when it comes at the end of the month. Samba-reggae drumming workshops, parties and live panel talks will make sure you are ready to get the most out of the long weekend of celebrations when it comes.
See some iconic jazz
When: 12th August

Having made their name on the NYC street busking scene, Too Many Zooz are renowned for their jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, funk, EDM and house music rhythms. They’ve crossed the Atlantic and are in Brixton. Get your jazzy pants on, it’s time to boogie.
Discuss ‘The Death of Comrade President’

Author Alain Mabanckou’s novel about the revolution in postcolonial Africa will be discussed by the reading group Radical Readers over at Brixton Library. Read up and get into it!
Take your fave kid for some free food

WingShak are making the summer holidays just a little bit easier to swallow. Throughout the whole of the month, every kid gets a free meal at the chicken joint when the adult they’re with buys one for themselves!
Go to Brixton’s beach club

Yep, the beach club at Brixton Jamm is back and as funky as ever. On the 14th you can transport yourself to the beaches of the Med- and no passport is needed. Brunch, bottomless rum punch for an hour, games and great tunes. Sunday never looked so good.
Celebrate Mind Over Matter’s 5th birthday
When: 8th August
Where: BRXTN Studios, SW9 8LF
Mind Over Matter are a spoken word collaborative who aim to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health through their events. For their 5th birthday celebrations they will be hosting an open mic night. Headlined by Becksy Becks and Big Scoop and rounded off with some music too, it’s looking like a great evening.
Get your skates on

Where: Market Row, SW9 8PS
For one night and one night only, Brixton Village will be transformed into an old school skate club. In collaboration with Black Obsidian Sound System, the evening will feature a collective of queer, trans and non-binary BIPOC talent and headlined by some of the biggest skating talent around. Franco Manca and Market Row Rum will be keeping spectators and skaters alike fuelled and refreshed. Just make sure you bring your own skates!
Embrace the heatwave

There’s rumours of another heatwave coming to town, so where else to soak up the rays but on the terrace at Jamm? For this day and night party, expect big name headline DJs, house music and disco tunes. Yep, it’s going to be a strong summer vibe, helped along by cocktails on tap and street food vendors too.
