Maybe the Bank Holidays are over for another few months, but that won’t stop Brixton having fun. Here’s what you should be doing this June.
Climb for free

In their own words, Blocfit are “giving the cost of living the middle finger”, and don’t we all appreciate that. Their free climbing festival will have free climbing and coaching for everyone- perfect if you’ve never tried it out the sport before. But it’s not just climbing, there will be loads of other things going on like a discounted shoe sale, a membership flash sale and other vendors. Oh, and a cake sale for afterwards too.
Go to the Windrush edition of the Black Culture Market
When: 3rd & 4th June
Where: Downstairs at the Department Store, SW9 8FR
The Department Store is hosting the Black Culture Market once again, but this time it is a little different. This one is all about celebrating 75 years of Windrush, so expect an ‘inspiring showcase of carefully selected black businesses’. As ever, the stalls will change each day, so go both days and discover new things each time.
Explore what it means to be Latinx in London
When: Runs 7th-24th June
Where: Brixton House, SW9 8GL
There’s always something good to catch at Brixton House, and this show is no exception. ‘My Uncle is not Pablo Escobar’ explores what it’s like to be Latinx in London through the characters of Alejandra, Lucia, Honey and Catalina. The show also coincides with the Latin X Brixton Festival which runs from the 16th-18th June. Keep your eyes out for a programme of panels, workshops and talks.

Brixton Jamm is hosting a funk, soul and disco extravaganza on their terrace, and it’s going to be all the good vibes, good tunes and good dancing you could wish for. You’ll come away high on life and exhausted. Kind of like going to the gym, but way more funky.
‘Represent’ Pop up runway
When: 11th June
Where: Pop Brixton, SW9 8PQ
Pop Brixton are joining in with the Windrush 75 celebrations with their pop up fashion event. From 11am-4pm check out the design market that champions up and coming designers, and then from 5pm-6pm watch the fashion come to life at the runway show.
Hear two authors speak about Windrush stories
When: 21st June
Where: Brixton Library, SW2 1JQ
Tony Fairweather and Alexis Keir are important voices in the Windrush storytelling. At this event, they’ll be speaking about their books (Twenty – Eight Pounds Ten Shillings and Windward Family, respectively) and the impact of the Windrush generation.
Deep dive into the history of Windrush

Another author event! At this one you can join Onyekachi Wambu, Nigerian-British journalist and writer, as he talks about his experience editing the first every published literary on Windrush and the 500 years of history preceding the event.
