What to do in Clapham this MAY

Let’s go May! Some of our favourite things to keep you busy include charity fundraisers & going to the cinema with your dog…

Watch the Eurovision final in style

When: 13th May

Where: Clapham Picturehouse, SW4 0AT

Hosted by Out at Clapham’s very own David Robson, the cinema will be decorated to the nines for the 67th ever contest. Included with your ticket will be a goodie bag, score card (got to keep track!) and heaps of popcorn. Fancy dress is strongly, strongly encouraged- prizes for the best dressed! 8pm is kick off for the competition, but head down early to catch a preview of the brand new BBC show ‘I Kissed a Boy’ presented by Dannii Minogue. This evening gets a 10 from us.

Watch the new Guardians of the Galaxy… with your dog

When: 14th May

Where: Clapham Picturehouse, SW4 0AT

Everyone knows going to the cinema with someone else is a risky game. Will they talk all the way through? Steal your popcorn? Humans aren’t to be trusted. Which is why we are loving the fact that the Picturehouse is showing the brand new Guardians of the Galaxy and letting you bring your dog as a date. On this special screening, you and your pooch will enjoy slightly quieter noise levels, a little more in house lighting and a lot more licks.

Hear some folk and country tunes

When: 19th May

Where: Clapham Library, SW4 7DB

Time to defy the library rules and make some noise! Folk and country duo Naomi Bedford and Paul Simmonds will be performing for a few hours in the Clapham Library. There’s a cash bar so you can enjoy the music with a drink in hand.

Go for a late night stroll

When: 20th May

Where: Clapham Common

‘Stroll’ might be a little misleading, because the Moonlight Walk is a little further than a lap of the block. Kicking off at 8pm, this is a marathon or half marathon of night time walking, and many taking part will do it in fancy dress too. Sounds mad? Yes, but t’s all to raise money for breast cancer, so it’s a great thing to get involved with!

Hear all your favourite West End tunes

When: 24th May

Where: Two Brewers, SW4 7UJ

This evening will be a celebration of all the music Jerry Herman composed for theatre. Performed by Tim McArthur and Aaron Clingham, you’ll hear all of your nostalgic favourites like ‘I Am What I am’ and ‘Time Heals Everything, ‘I Won’t Send Roses’ and ‘Before The Parade Passes By’. We’d imagine you’ll be singing along too- so don’t forget your vocal warm ups before you go.

Do some shopping

When: 27th May

Where: Audley Nightingale Place, SW4 9AH

The Clapham spring market is back, and with over 25 local makers and designers, we are sure there will be something for you here. Expect a range of locally produced goodies; fashion, jewellery and homeware. Treat yourself to something special this spring.

Race for life

When: 27th May

Where: Clapham Common

Another opportunity to get a sweat on for a good cause. Race For Life is a 5km that raises money for Cancer Research UK, and they’ll be over on the Common on the 27th. Join in and get ready to run for a fantastic cause- just don’t forget to get your sponsorship money in!
