Where to brunch in Balham

Balham is known for it’s brunching prowess. It’s full of perfect weekend foodie locations, here are 5 of our favourites.

Brickwood

Where: 11 Hildreth St, SW12 9RQ

Why go: Ahh, Brickwood. It’s always going to be a favourite. Brickwood is the Aussie joint you want to be at on a Saturday morning- the food is always the best and the service is always with a smile, even in Winter, even in London. Go for the good vibes, stay for the hash nuggets, stay even longer for the Bloody Mary’s.

Milk

Where: 18-20 Bedford Hill, SW12 9RG

Why go: The banana bread is some of the best we’ve ever had. Topped with burnt halva butter, it’s viral for a reason. But it’s not just the sweet stuff that steals the show, the classics like the eggs bennys and the sweetcorn fritters are stupidly good too. The ingredients they use are from quality, sustainable suppliers and you can taste it.

Blackbird Bakery

Where: 12 Hildreth St, SW12 9RQ

Why go: We feel that Blackbird often gets overlooked on the Balham brunch scene. But it’s a great little spot if you suddenly wake up hungover on a Sunday morning needing brunch. Can’t face a queue and can’t stand the thought of ‘influencers’ taking pictures of their perfect pancakes? Blackbird is your place. The pastries are always homemade but if you want something more substantial the pasties and sausage rolls will kick out any sign of the night before.

Heart of Balham

Where: 113 Balham High Road, SW12 9AP

Why go: It’s got something for everyone! Vegan, GF, Halal or all of the above, you’ll be able to find something on the menu to suit. Plus lots of their menu has a charming Middle Eastern twist to it, from their full Lebanese breakfast down to their drinks (Nous Nous anyone?). It’s not up itself, it’s just a really good brunch.

The Apple Blue

Where: 212 Balham High Rd, SW12 9BS

Why go: If you’re into the sweet things in life, The Apple Blue is for you. They’ve got that hot chocolate (it’s one of the best things about the colder months) and a cracking selection of bakery products if you don’t want to sit in. If you’re dining in? You’ve got to get the Apple Blue T. Brioche French toast topped with peanut butter, caramel apples, and a neon bright blue apple ice cream. Perfect for the brunch pics.
