Last night we had the pleasure of visiting Belgravia’s newest addition, Wildflowers.
The restaurant officially opened its doors yesterday, and we were lucky enough to get a first taste of what’s been cooking.
There was a lot of excitement around this one. Aaron Potter, the man behind the kitchen here, recently hosted a pop-up event at Trinity Upstairs in Clapham, and tickets sold out within hours. So when we heard he was finally opening his own place, it was a no-brainer to pop by and check it out.
Aaron isn’t new to south-west London. He started his culinary journey at Trinity Clapham, working alongside Adam Byatt for over a decade. So yes, we know Belgravia isn’t quite Clapham, but with Aaron’s roots firmly planted in our corner of London, we’ll gladly claim this restaurant as one of our own!
The restaurant is a little bit of a hidden gem – tucked away from the main road, which actually adds to its charm. You have to go looking for it, and once you do, it feels like you’ve stumbled upon something special. The interiors? Stunning. The stripped-back but elegant look was all put together by Wildflowers’ co-founder, interiors and floral stylist Laura Hart. She’s nailed it with bare brick walls softened by fabric accents and an abundance of natural light from the picture windows. It’s a serene and beautiful space that immediately puts you at ease.
We weren’t the only ones keen to try Aaron’s new venture. We even spotted Matt Tebbutt of Saturday Kitchen fame dining there too – talk about a good omen! It was lovely to see, and it added an extra layer of anticipation for what was to come.
Now, onto the food. For starters, we went for the Lamb Tartare with Wildflower Harissa & Labneh – it was as delicious as it sounds. But the real star of the show? The Scallop Crudo, served with Nashi Pear, Almonds, Fennel Pollen & Olive Oil. This dish was creamy, refreshing, and just divine. We could have had seconds… and thirds!
For the mains, we opted for the Sugar Pit Pork Rack with Quince, Almond & Gremolata. This was melt-in-the-mouth tender; the kind of pork you could slice with a spoon. And yes, it came with a perfectly crisped pork skin. We also had our eyes on the Cornish Duck, which was cooked over coals right in front of us in the open kitchen. It came with Golden Raisins, Pine Nuts & Sherry – a sweet, autumnal dish that left us wanting more.
The open kitchen is definitely worth mentioning. It’s visible from every corner of the dining area, adding a bit of theatre to the whole experience. Watching the chefs work their magic made the evening feel that little bit more special.
We couldn’t be happier for Aaron and his team. Wildflowers already feels like a place you’ll want to come back to again and again. Thank you for feeding us in your beautiful new home – we’ll definitely be back soon!
