Celebrate the 60 years since Jamaica gained its independence from the British Commonwealth over at Brixton Library.
2022 marks 60 years since Jamaica gained independence from the British Commonwealth. Though the official date of independence was 6th August, Brixton is celebrating this month. Brixton Library is hosting a series of events to mark this anniversary. The first is on Monday 24th and will be an evening of literature, comedy, poetry, comedy and song to celebrate and tell the story of Jamaica. It will be a star-studded evening featuring big names like Donna Spence, Felicity Ethnic, Paulette Harris-German and Tony Fairweather. Tickets can be found here.
The second event is a family friendly affair. On the 25th October Head down between 2pm and 6pm where the library will be hosting a carnival headdress making workshop. Get creative and make some fun accessories to celebrate the 60 years of independence. This one is completely free but should be booked in advance because it is likely to sell out. Book here.
