We will never be upset by the news that Balham is getting new cafes. Here are the two latest independents for you to try out.
Balham is quickly becoming the coffee capital of London. Though it has just been announced that chains Starbucks and Black Sheep Coffee are stepping onto the Balham streets, it hasn’t shaken the independent coffee scene of Balham, oh no. In the past few weeks two new independent cafes have opened to rival the incoming chains.
Here’s a bit about Balham’s latest caffeine dealers:
Panda’s Coffee House, SW12 9AG
This family run cafe has an oriental theme running throughout- from the decor to the fortune cookies that you’ll get on the side of your coffee. This is a reference to the Chinese heritage of the owner, and makes for a really fun cafe. Plus, they use beans from Caravan Roastery so the coffee is excellent (as is the latte art!) and they’ve got a big range of cakes and baked treats on the counter too. A cosy, friendly spot that we are sure will quickly become a new favourite.
Materia Lab, SW12 9AG
This name might ring a bell for you because this Italian restaurant opened up in Post Market in September last year. From their kitchen there, they were putting out stunning Italian dishes that have stolen the hearts of patrons with their fresh pastas and beautifully presented food. Off the back of this success, they have opened a cafe on 92 Balham High Road (just in front of Post Market). They’ll be serving Italian coffee, pastries and brunch at the weekend too.
