Hot take: Nando’s isn’t to place to go for piri-piri chicken. Casa do Frango is. And now it’s going to be easier to get your hands on some!
Casa do Frango know what they’re doing when it comes to Piri-Piri. Known for their Southern Portugal flavours, laid back approach to dining and general dose of sunshine feeling, these restaurants are a little summertime haven when you haven’t quite made it onto the continent yet. There are already a few of these Algarvian gems scattered across London; you can find locations in London Bridge, Shoreditch and Piccadilly. But they’re expanding even more! They’re in the process of making a brand new home in Victoria and plan to open on 26th June.
If you’re yet to visit, then you’re in for a treat. Their menu revolves around their signature Frango Piri-Piri chicken, which I grilled over wood-charcoal to give it a really intensely smokey flavour. So you’ve got to order one of those. Besides the chicken, though, there is a lot on offer. The small plates are plentiful and impossible to choose between. The Peixinhos da Horta (crispy fried green beans) are a staple, salt cod fritters, grilled chorizo… there are some deliciously fresh side dishes like a heritage tomato salad and a zesty cabbage slaw which are fantastic additions to a meal already jam packed with flavour.
The Victoria location is undergoing its makeover to turn into a recognisable Casa do Frango restaurant: think hand painted tiles, a big and breezy dining space (enough room for a whopping 260 diners!), lots of green plants and bottles of their very own wine (Boa Pinga) by the bucket load. It’s going to feel as though you’ve just stepped into Portugal and we can’t wait.
Casa Do Frango opens at No. 2 Sir Simon Milton Square, SW1E 5DJ on the 26th June.
