Clapham’s very festive menus

Keeping it traditional with turkey or want something a bit different? Whatever you‘re craving, here are some set menus to keep you full.

Set menus really are the joy of every indecisive person. All you really need to think about is what drink you’re getting and whether you’re going for 2 or 3 courses (and that’s a pretty obvious answer). Gather your merry mates and book into one of these very festive menus.

Minnow is queen of the set menu, and this festive one is another banger. With beautifully seasonal food, there is enough variety that will keep everyone on your table happy. And the beauty is that you can pick and choose a menu that works for you. Keep it fishy and start with the pan fried squid before moving onto the sea bream… or go veg-forward with the chargrilled cauliflower. Finish with one of their incredible deserts, we love the sound of the cheese board or a tiramisu. It’ll feel festive, without being ‘in-your-face-festive’. Perfect.

Menu highlight: No turkey in sight!

Price: £38pp for 3 courses and a side.

The Windmill, SW4 9DE

As they do every year, The Windmill have really decked the halls. And, like their decorations, they’ve gone all out with their Christmas set menu too. It’s all extremely festive. From the roast celeriac soup with chestnut gremolata right down to the apple, fig and chestnut crumble, each element of the menu will have something of the Christmas spirit about it. There’s a great selection to choose from too. If you’re going with a big, varied group who are all up for a properly traditional occasion, this is your place.

Menu highlight: There are two vegan mains on the menu and both look delicious. But that maple roast squash cassoulet with cavolo nero and chestnut pesto has really caught our eye…

Price: £38pp for 3 courses

MOMMI, SW4 7UR

MOMMI are doing Christmas in the MOMMI way- with the fiesta at the very soul of it. It’s not a ‘classic’ Christmas dinner, but you’ll be getting enough of those anyway. At MOMMI you can start with a poké bowl and move onto a sticky rib of beef before finishing with grilled pineapple. It’s the fresh, zingy flavours you love from this spot…with festive twists.

Menu highlight: Speaking of festive twists, the welcome cocktail is a spiced dark berry fizz. Festive and fresh and so on brand.

Price: £35pp for 4 courses and a welcome cocktail

Haché, SW4 7SS

Not just burgers! Haché are going full Christmas: start with honey glazed chipolatas with a bloody Marie ketchup or the crispy roast sprouts and then move on to the roast turkey roulade… or there are both meaty and vegan options if you can’t be swayed away from burgers. But for a real festive kick all the mains are served with sharing plates of all the trimmings; sprouts, cauliflower cheese, parsnips, potatoes, carrots and gravy.

Menu highlight: If you’ve got a group of 10 you’ve just got to get the whole basque cheesecake. No question about it.

Price: £25pp for 2 course, £30pp for 3.

Eco, SW4 7UG

This set menu is tough. Because there is such variety it’s really hard to choose: risotto or roasted turkey for mains? Whether you’re sticking with tradition or would rather a pizza for your Christmas dinner, Eco are here to make your festive wishes come true. In true Italian style the you can get a pumpkin ravioli for starters and there’s a delicious sounding winter berry panda cotta for desert. One thing is for certain, you’ll not be leaving hungry.

Menu highlight: The food is great, but our favourite thing about this menu is that they’re donating £2 from every set menu sold to Ace of Clubs, a local charity supporting those without homes.

Price: £25.95pp for 2 courses, £32.95pp for 3 courses and a glass of Prosecco.

Bistro Union, SW4 9NG

There is a properly traditional set up at Bistro- of course there is! The majority of meal will be served family style, with starter and pudding dishes set in the middle of the table for everyone to dig into. The whole table gets to share cured salmon, smoked cod’s roe, whipped goats curd and a pork terrine for starters. Puds will be a cheese and date board and a mincemeat and apple strudel. If you’ve got a table of 10+ then it will be the same style for mains too, or if not you’ll choose between a selection of delicious roasts; goose, brill or beef?

Menu highlight: The bread. We know this sounds ridiculous because the whole menu is so darn good, but just you wait for that bread that comes with the starters…

Price: £55pp

No. 32 The Old Town, SW4 0JE

Credit: @wearetheaddress

No. 32 have stayed pretty traditional with their Christmas menu this season. It features all the things you want to see; beetroot cured trout, turkey with all the trimmings and a classic Christmas pudding too. Of course there are other options, but they’ve kept the menu relatively slim- perfect for that indecisive group. Finish up with complimentary mince pies for the table. How very merry.

Menu highlight: Even the seabass main has had a festive upgrade. The parsnip purée it comes with is something we can really get behind.

Price: £39pp (add £8 for a glass of Prosecco)
