Effra Social ticks all the boxes

Effra Social is woven into the very fabric of the Brixton landscape. Having been converted from an old Conservative club, its location on Effra Road is legendary. The first thing we loved about Effra Social is the great beer garden at the front of the building. It’s a great sun trap, perfect for a beer after work to people watch the dog walkers coming up from Brockwell Park. They’ve also got a covered area too, so no matter what the weather is, Effra has got you covered.

Inside holds impressive events space, and though it’s big there certainly isn’t a lack of atmosphere. There is a large room available for private hire which would be great for hosting events or parties. Head downstairs and there is a huge bar area which also turns into a club from Thursday to Saturdays, which has a reputation for hosting some pretty legendary nights.

We tried out their 3 for £18 tapas-style menu. It was great value for what we had; chorizo croquettes, Padron peppers and a flatbread dish with a creamy feta topping. We especially loved the croquettes- just wait for the ooze! Moreish and perfect for sharing (or not, if you can fend off your mates). To drink we had a Pimm’s and a Margarita. The Marg was one of the best we’ve had, and on Mondays, it is well worth making the most of their deal where you can get them for just a fiver!

Effra Social really is just that- social. It has events on most evenings, so whether you want a chilled glass of wine in the sun or a full-on club night, it’s your spot.
