Truly authentic and truly delicious. This is a hidden pasta spot that will have you going back again… and again… and again.
Tucked into a corner of Tooting Market is cosy Vermicelli. Though they’ve only been open since the beginning of this year, they’ve certainly won the hearts of locals and tourists alike with their stellar menu and authentically Italian setting. They’ve based their restaurant on strong values; they cook by original recipes and always use fresh, organic ingredients. And love- there is clearly a lot of love that goes into their dishes; the proof of which is certainly in the pasta.
We started off our meal with a classic burrata and some arancini. Though burrata can be a bit overdone at the moment, this one was really special. It was pimped up with heritage tomatoes and a black truffle vinaigrette which was really as delicious as it sounds. The tomato and mozzarella arancini were exactly the texture you’re after and came on a blue cheese sauce. Truly oozing with flavour!
Of course, the pasta here was unbelievable. We tried out the tagliatelle with a creamy n’djua and mascarpone sauce and the basil and pistachio pesto casarecca with burrata and sun blushed tomatoes… because you can never have enough burrata here. Both dishes were pasta perfection and we are already planning our next trip to try out some more of the menu, we’ve heard great things about the rigatoni ragu. This was all washed down with a bottle of red, light enough to accompany the pasta and expertly recommended by our server.
What we love? It’s such a hidden gem! The menu is simple but the flavours are anything but. And considering the portion sizes and prices this spot really is a no-brainer for when you are in need of some really high quality food. Not to mention their cocktails are a steal at £7- Vermicelli is your next date night, quick lunch or catch up dinner after work.
