Opening every 1st Saturday of the month, the Repair Cafe is opening on Brixton road to provide complimentary tinkering to fix any of your bits and bobs you’ve got lying around that might have otherwise have found their way into the bin. The cafe, which is run by a team of dedicated and skilled volunteers, hopes to reduce the amount of household applications that would otherwise have ended up in landfill by fixing them for free.

All you need to do is turn up between 10am and 1pm with your broken object (which can be anything from clothing to bikes, furniture to electrical appliances), wait with a cup of tea or coffee and cake in the cafe and bobs your uncle! You’ve saved some money on replacing the faulty item and you’ve saved the Earth by reducing your input into landfill too. If the volunteer can’t fix your thing, then they’ll give you advice on how best to discard it in the most environmentally friendly way.

The cafe is all about creating a sense of community spirit, so if you feel like it you are welcome to pull up a pew and chat to the volunteer who will be helping you out. You could even get some tips from them on how to fix your object if it ever breaks again. Though it’s all for free they’ll be taking donations to keep the cafe running and to support the opening of even more- there are over 2,500 Repair Cafes globally at the moment and there is hope for even more with your support!
