If you’re wandering around Sloane Square this Friday evening, you might come across quite a few sleeping bags. Let us explain…
Glass Door is hosting their annual sleep out for the 6th year! This Friday 6th October, volunteers will brave the cold and take to their sleeping bags where they’ll camp out in the street in the hopes to raise awareness and money for the homeless. Participants are encouraged to raise money from friends, family and co-workers and last year a whopping £60,000 was raised. There are hopes to go above and beyond that total this year.
“Taking part in the sleep-out is of course nothing like the reality of being homeless. Nevertheless, giving up the comfort of your bed for one night and sleeping out at the event is a simple act of solidarity and a chance to empathise with the position that homeless people are in.“
There is loads of support for the sleep out. Duke of York Square are providing security, there will be a musician until 10pm and Partridges will be serving up a warming breakfast in the morning for everyone who slept on their doorstep- the perfect way to round off the event when things wrap up at 7am on Saturday morning.
