There’s more to the Prince Of Wales than meets the eye

We know and love the Prince of Wales, it’s a true Brixton institution. Its club nights are legendary… but there’s more to it than that.

POW POW POW! Known for its great weekend club evenings for good reason; the combo of that roof terrace and those DJs is a guaranteed great time. But the Prince of Wales doesn’t need to just be your weekend good time spot. Yep, there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye.

First, the pub downstairs almost feels like a separate entity to its slightly more lively upstairs counterpart. The pub quizzes and great draught pints give it that unbeatable cosy pub vibe. Whilst we were down there we grabbed their pizza of the month, the margarita with an n’duja twist. Unlike most pub pizzas, POW does this well.

It is cooked freshly in the oven in front of you, so lands on your plate bubbling, hot and gooey with cheese. The n’duja addition added a little kick of spice which made the drinks slip down even easier than usual. Speaking of- we tried out a couple of their cocktails; the ‘Wrays Rum Punch’ was fruity and refreshing and the ‘Night on the Town’ was the perfect drink to pep us up for an evening after a long day at work. We loved this part of the Prince of Wales; it felt like an added treat, and is a great option for an easy quick pint after work or a calmer moment to catch up with friends before heading upstairs for a bit more of a funkier vibe on the weekends.

Upstairs is as legendary as ever. We were lucky to hit one of the sofar sound events that the spacious rooftop was hosting on the evening we went. Watching the sunset over Brixton with some acoustic tunes to boot was quite a moment. We’d highly recommend keeping an eye out for the weekday events at POW too- this one was such a treat on a Tuesday evening. Whist you’re up there make sure you tuck into some of their nibbles too. Popcorn chicken, halloumi fries, buffalo wings and the tower chicken burger were all on the table for us and they were all absolutely delicious additions to our evening. We could a could have kept eating these moreish little dishes, served in street food style boxes, they were easy, unfussy and absolutely perfect with a pint.

So yes, head to the Prince of Wales for their wild club nights- you can’t go wrong. But don’t forget to check them out on a week day too; their event schedule is jam packed and with their huge ‘vibe variety’ you’ll certainly find something to fit whatever you’re in the mood for.

And to really get you excited about this Brixton institution, we are hosting a competition in collaboration with them. Up for grabs is a £100 bar tab (to be used on food/drinks), 1 bottle of Market Row Rum, 1 bottle of Brixton Gin AND 3 tickets to an event of your choice at POW. A huge prize!
