Unwined in Tooting Market has had a refurbishment and this 2.0 version really is any wine lovers paradise.
We headed over to check out the recently renovated Unwined in their Tooting Market location and, quite frankly, we just love what they’ve done with the place. It’s a really busy little hub, and the interior reflects it’s buzzy location with a neon sign over the counter bar and big floor to ceiling shelves- they’re literally full to the rafters with an impressive selection of wines.
Their new specialty is their flights; a merry trio of 75ml wines. The team are absolute professionals and so knowledgeable about wine so they will talk you through everything – from where the wine is from to the length of skin-contact and anything in between! Though wine bars have a bit of a reputation for being pricey establishments these flights start from just £12.50 which is a really impressive, especially when the quality of wine is taken into account. Our server, Billie, gave us a recommendation of the October special flight. This was exclusively orange wine (how autumnal) and we tried a glass from Georgia, France and Chilli. As well as sipping on delicious variations, we learnt a lot too. Georgia is the birthplace of orange wine; who’d have guessed! We really loved the 5 grape variety from Languedoc in France, and it was really interesting to see how a cooler region effects the taste of the glass.
Obviously we couldn’t go to a wine bar and not have a cheese and charcuterie board. Billie came through with the recommendations again and pointed us towards the triple cream Brillat-Savarin, the Parmigiano Reggiano, rosemary-cured lamb carpaccio and Cornish pink peppercorn salami. A salty spread that paired perfectly with the extremely quaffable wines.
You can also make Wednesday your new wine night as they run a wine tasting for between £20 – £25. 5 wines paired with cheese, now that’s a way to perk up your hump day.
