What to do in Clapham this DECEMBER

Well would you look at that! It’s December already. The last month of 2023 is packed full of festive events. Check ’em out.

See the Christmas lights switch on

Where: The Polygon, SW4 0JG

Kicking off December in the most festive way possible is the Clapham Christmas lights switch on! There’ll be a special guest, live music, mulled wine and, of course, the traditional flying animal. This year it’s a cow. What else?


Give back

When: 2nd December

Where: Holy Spirit Church, SW4 9JU

It’s the season for giving and this drive for the Lambeth and Wandsworth food banks is the perfect opportunity to do just that. If you are able, bring things to keep those who need it warm and fed this winter (socks, gloves, hot water bottles, tinned food and household essentials). The drive is open between 10am to 2pm.


Belt out some carols

When: 3rd December

Where: Holy Trinity Church, SW4 0BN

O Come All Ye Faithful to Holy Trinity Church on the evening of the 3rd where, from 6pm, it’ll be a merry medley all your favourite Christmas tunes. At ‘Carols on the Common’ there’ll be a live musicians to accompany plus food trucks and mulled wine to get the vocal cords lubricated. Wrap up warm, because it’s an outdoor affair!

Is there anything more festive than snuggling up with your favourite Christmas film? From the 4th until the 29th December Clapham Picturehouse are showing a variety of your favourite festive films; think Home Alone, Elf, Die Hard… All the great and the good. Grab the popcorn!


Make your own wreath

With Christmas comes wreath making at the Windmill! We went to this event last year and, let us tell you, we’ve never felt so festive. The cosy setting, the roaring fire, the mulled wine… and that was before we even got to making our wreaths! You’ll have the pros from Clapham Flowers at hand to help you out and we guarantee you’ll walk away with something to be proud of.


Get your Christmas shopping sorted

Pick up all the gifts you’ll need this season at the Clapham Maker’s Market. From trinkets for stockings to gifts to stick under the tree, there’ll be all sorts to find. And you’ll be supporting our local, small businesses too! Win, win.


Learn ‘How to Butter Toast’

Ok, so you’ll do a lot more than learn how to butter toast at this evening with Clapham local, Tara Wigley. To celebrate her brand new book Tara is going to be cooking up a storm for you to enjoy whilst hearing all of her tips and tricks of how to host the perfect Christmas meal.

The actual Cheeky Girls are coming to Clapham this December! They’ll be putting on a show at The Two Brewers along with two epic drag performers. No doubt it’ll be as good as it sounds.

What’s Christmas without a horrible Christmas jumper. Find your most outrageous and garish one in the wardrobe and flaunt it at Infernos’ Xmas jumper party. You might get a bit sweaty, but it’ll be worth it.

‘Underground Society’ is an exhibition all about the equality found on the London Underground. Artist Abby Cocovini has produced loads of beautiful paintings which is a glimpse into the tunnels underground and the people who travel through them. Check out the exhibition at Clapham Picturehouse which is open daily (between 12pm and 9pm) until the 20th.
