Where to go and what to order to fix your hangover

Silly season is coming and with it comes silly amounts of hangovers. Here’s where you should go and what you should order to fix the headache.

The Falafel House Special Olives and Meze

Where: 131 Clapham High Street, SW4 7SS

Credit: @olivesandmezesoho

This one’s for the gym bunnies who still care a bit about what they’re doing the day after the night before. The salad box comes with some crispy falafel, two salads, rice and your choice of either sweet potato or regular chips so you’ve got protein, fats, greens and carbs which will get you well on the way to recovery. It’s all super fresh… unlike you.

Mutton Roti Canai Gopal’s Corner

Where: Victoria Market Hall, SW1E 5NE

Credit: @gopalscorner

Tender mutton in a creamy sauce that holds just the right amount of heat to get a little alcohol detox sweat on. Swiped up from the plate with two flaky, buttery roti so you don’t even need cutlery. This is an order that’s worth braving the busy Market Hall for. Let the steam from this warming dish sort you out, because it will.

Banana Bread Milk

Where: 18 Bedford Hill, SW12 9RG

Going sweet on a hangover can be a risky make-or-break kind of business. But if you can hack it sometime there is nothing better than a good dose of sugar and the banana bread at Milk will give you a hefty hit of that. It’s a doorstop portion and comes slathered with halva butter and pumpkin seed tahini which you’ll be thinking about so much for the rest of the day that your hangover will be all but forgotten about.

The Veggie Fry Vardo

Where: 9 Duke Of York Square, SW3 4LY

Credit: @mylifeisforliving

No stuffy restaurants here! Put your shades on and head to Duke of York Square to sit in a cooling breeze at Vardo. Cobwebs blown, order the veggie fry. Eggs, roasted tomatoes, roasted mushrooms, grilled halloumi, smashed avocado, house spiced black beans and toasted sourdough to mop it all up. It’s a classic for when you’re feeling extra fragile.

Rarebit Crumpet Black Bear Burger

Where: Market Row, SW9 8LB

Credit: @evieeatsout

We know that the double burger is the obvious choice when talking about Black Bear, but hear us out because the rarebit crumpet deserves a look in. The butter is Bovril infused for extra savoury-ness, there’s some confit garlic on there, pickled shallot for pizzaz and, of course, a shed load of cheese. And really- is there anything more comforting than a big, juicy crumpet? We don’t think so.

The Brekkie Hangover Killer Brickwood

Where: Multiple locations across SW London (Battersea, Tooting, Balham, Clapham…)

Credit: @bigsqueezeats

The name says it all. This burrito is a literal hangover killer, it’s packed with (deep breath): bacon, sausage, chorizo, mushrooms, spinach, pico de gallo, scrambled egg, potato hash, avocado, sour cream,
cheese and red pepper salsa PLUS a side of hash nuggets. There is absolutely no way any hangover could survive such a salty, meaty, cheesy mix of goodness. And if times really are that bad then get the Bloody Brickwood too- their take on a Bloody Mary comes spiked with Vegemite and is garnished with hash nuggets and bacon.

Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese ‘Everything’ Bao Daddy Bao

Where: 113 Mitcham Road, SW17 9PE

Credit: @thebrunchdestroyers

Is it a bagel? Is it a bao? Well… it’s a bao. But it’s a bao that has all the flavours of that American favourite with some twists in the form of some spring onion cream cheese and a beetroot relish. This one is perfect if you’re not really sure what you’re feeling like (or if your tum can take anything). It’s not overwhelming in size or flavour but it is really delicious. A bite out of this and your day might just turn around.
